FAS Focusing on Category Management and Customer Service
Tom Sharpe, commissioner of the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service, writes in a blog post that the organization is nearing the end of a three-year initiative to reshape it. Sharpe highlights the creation of the Acquisition Gateway, reform of the Multiple Awards Schedules and the propagation of various tools as achievements of the past three years. “To ensure our ongoing success and to stretch even further, we are now charting our direction for the next three years,” he writes. “However, we are not planning to change our vision. We are staying the course, but adding a special emphasis on customers. We believe that a focus on the customer, which really is at the heart of Category Management, will ensure that we are making the best decisions for our business.”
FAR Council Issues New Guidance on Sole-Source Awards
The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Council has issued new proposed rule to “further clarify guidance for justifications of 8(a) sole-source contract awards in excess of $22 million.” The proposed rule follows a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report titled “Slow Start to Implementation of Justifications for 8(a) Sole-Source Contracts.” The new rule requires justification in writing for any sole-source award of more than $20 million, and clearly delineates the lines of authority.
Acquisition.gov Releases New FAN in a Minute
Acquisition.gov has produced another FAN in a Minute video for the FAR Alert Notice. The latest episode discusses the removal of DUNS numbers from the Federal Acquisition Regulation, new regulations regarding consolidated regulations exceeding $2 million, and a contractor prohibition on discriminating against employees based on compensation disclosures or inquiries.
