A federal jury on Tuesday convicted Frederick Burnett, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, of fraudulently representing that the “hundreds of thousands” of baseball caps and backpacks he supplied to the Army Recruiting Command were made in the U.S., when they were made in China. Burnett had three contracts with the Defense Department from 2005 to 2009, worth $6.2 million, to provide promotional items to be given to Army recruits. The maximum penalty is 20 years in federal prison.
