Maine’s construction industry is in a holding pattern as new contracts aren’t being awarded, following a dispute between Governor Paul LePage and Treasurer Terry Hayes. LePage claims Hayes did not follow procurement regulations when she awarded a contract to an out-of-state bonding agent. Hayes says she followed the rules, but can’t issue bonds to pay for contracts until LePage tells her how much the state is going to put out into the bond market. Construction contractors say they could lose tens of millions of dollars in revenue because of the dispute.
