President Donald Trump issued an executive order “on Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure.” The order had been anticipated for some time, but the president reportedly wanted to wait until the White House’s American Technology Council, as well as the president’s budget, was announced. The order mandates agencies follow cybersecurity best practices, and holds agency heads accountable for breaches.
