European Digital Rights (EDRi) is an association of civil and human rights organisations from across Europe which defends rights and freedoms in the digital environment. It is currently championing for public sector software that fosters the sharing of good ideas and solutions for everyone. According to a report in Intelligent Property Watch, any software that is paid for with public money should be Open Source.  EDRi has issued an open letter asking for legislation that publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made publicly available under a free and open source software licence. “If it is public money, it should be public code as well,” it says.
