The UK’s New Civil Engineer writes this week that at its recent conference, a panel made up of representatives from Transport for London, the Environment Agency, Heathrow Airport and Anglican Water discussed their approach to technological innovation. In doing so the concern was raised that attempting to be innovative is hampered by the drive to make sure public money is spent as efficiently as possible. “There’s the risk of bringing in something new with taxpayers money for something that may or may not work. You have to justify it, which can make it very difficult,” said one representative. The full debate is on New Civil Engineer.
