In 2017 the UK government launched the Industrial Strategy, setting out its four “grand challenges” and specific objectives to put the UK “at the forefront of the industries of the future” and stimulate innovation. The objectives are: to harness the power of innovation to help meet the needs of an ageing society; to maximise the advantages for UK industry from the global shift to clean growth; to become a world leader in shaping the future of mobility and to put the UK at the forefront of the AI and data revolution in health care.  At the Civil Service World inaugural Innovation Lecture in January, experts and policymakers shared the latest advancements towards meeting these goals, the challenges faced and how the government will seek to address them.
