The Small Business Administration announced today that the federal government reached its small business contracting goal for the fourth consecutive year, awarding 24.34% of federal contracting dollars to small businesses, eclipsing the 23% goal, but dropping from 25.75% last year. The government also exceeded the Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) goal and “had its highest achievement ever for percentage of contract dollars awarded to Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) small businesses.” The scorecard has often been used to track how agencies are spending their money with small businesses, but watchdogs have been critical of the exceptions carved out of the calculations.
