While federal agencies are seeing billions in savings thanks to data center consolidation, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports that a lack of consistency in how data is reported may mean those savings are not clear to both the agencies and the watchdog. Of the 23 current strategic plans for data center consolidation, only 7 of those have all the required data, says GAO’s report. “Until OMB improves its oversight of agencies’ reporting of cost savings, and until agencies address inconsistencies in their reporting, the likelihood of further reporting errors is increased,”the report states.
