Sens. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Rob Portman (R_OH) have introduced a bill in the Senate to create a pilot “bug bounty” program, that would offer cash rewards to ethical hackers who find vulnerabilities in the Department of Homeland Security’s websites. The bill calls for $250,000 for the contest, and follows a similar program run by the Department of Defense. Sensitive and mission-critical systems would be excluded from the program.
