No stranger to acquisition reform, Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) has found favor for his committee’s proposal “to require the government to create new business deals with at least two companies that already run commercial e-commerce platforms.” Officials from the General Services Administration have worked closely with Thornberry and his House Armed Services Committee to examine the viability of the approach. GSA’s Alan Thomas, the newly-appointed commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service, called it a “step in the right direction,” while vendor reactions have been a mixed bag.
