It’s been two years since the General Services Administration (GSA) issued its request for proposals to replace its Networxx contract for government-wide telecommunications services. Today, it announced the award of its $50 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) vehicle to ten vendors. Four of the awardees were incumbents on the Networxx vehicle, but GSA expanded the scope of EIS beyond telecommunications to virtual private network services, ethernet transport services, voice, and managed network services. The agency received 11 bids in total; the one unsuccessful bidder did file a protest, but dropped the case before a decision was made. Agencies have been instructed to prepare for the transition to EIS, but some have expressed concern about whether GSA is giving them sufficient time to complete the task.
