The Saving Federal Dollars Through Better Use of Government Purchase and Travel Cards Act tasks the General Services Administration with combing through data to identify “patterns of potential misuse,” the bill’s authors said. Auditors have already identified high-profile instances of federal employees misusing government charge cards in recent years, such as employees spending more than $1 million at casinos and using their government cards for personal trips and errands. “By helping agencies better track and analyze card charges, we can curb wasteful spending and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent more wisely and effectively across the federal government,” said Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., who introduced the bill.
