A new IT modernization plan from the White House’s American Technology Council looks to leverage commercial cloud and industry best practices to improve government tech. The plan calls for federal agencies to detail in-process and planned cloud migration projects, and specifically asks the Department of Homeland Security to give the General Services Administration baseline configuration guidance for Managed Security Services capabilities. Additionally, the plan calls for the development of a centralized acquisition support function that can manage small agency cybersecurity-related contracts. “It is a big bite, but needed,” former Federal CIO Tony Scott told FCW.
