 A top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) cyber official said that government and private-sector information sharing worked during the WannaCry ransomware outbreak and wants to see similar collaboration in the future. “We were getting information from an open source perspective and from international or computer and security service response teams,” which delivered technical data gathered from companies being affected overseas, DHS Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity Jeanette Manfra said. And while this is an example of what information sharing can do, there’s still work to do regarding public-private partnerships for cyberattack prevention, recovery, and response.
