Transport for London (TfL) is awarding a £380m ‘interim’ contract for radio and telecommunications services for the London Underground, without competition. TfL says “for ‘technical reasons and reasons connected with exclusive IP rights’, there is currently ‘no reasonable alternative’ to London Underground engaging Thales under the interim contract. A Voluntary Ex Ante Transparency (VEAT) notice allows them to award companies without prior publication. Companies that believe they could have competed for the contract have ten days to mount a legal challenge. Read Transport Network for full details.
