There was a very good article this week on RailEngineer titled “Signalling procurement enters the Digital Age.” It’s an interesting read because, while it is an industry-specific subject, it is relevant to other industries, highlighting that as businesses embrace the digital age, so the procurement of systems associated with it need to adapt. It discusses how both customers and suppliers need to understand the full impact, using the excellent quote “the wonderful thing about standards is there are so many to choose from!” This article looks at the supplier’s view on how things might change, and while it gets quite detailed on the rail side (excellent if you do work in that industry), it does raise some good points about how organisations will have to adjust to new requirements, suggesting that those with the widest portfolio of expertise and products are likely to be dominant players. Read more here.
