Big Data in the public sector, same as in private sector?

Here is an interesting article from IBM on Big Data in the public sector.

Opportunities and challenges are quite similar to the ones in the private sector. The 360 degree view is well known when applied to SRM and suppliers. The article develops the same concepts applied to citizens.

To some extent, knowing customers well is important. Hence the value that a 360 degree view of citizens can bring. But, as always with Data about people, there is a risk of seeing the data collection go too far. Also, cyber security is one of the key challenges of the years to come so one can only imaging what could happen if the data about citizens was hacked.

The public sector has one single objective: serve citizens in efficient and effective ways to their highest level of satisfaction, despite having limited resources and budgets. Big data is already turning out to be a key competitive differentiator and asset for businesses across many sectors from telecommunications, to banking, to retail.

  1. Thanks for posting Bertrand.  The unifiied view is the biggest challenge but also offers the most advantage, if it can be accomplished.  Same can be said for supplier performance.
