If you haven’t read the story today about how the Department of Defense’s experimental unit, DIUx, has awarded a majority of its contracts to established vendors, check it out. I’m curious to hear what you think. From my perspective I’m surprised/not surprised how short DIUx’s leash has been, in terms of oversight, criticism and backlash. For decades all anyone talks about is how the Pentagon needs to simplify and speed up its acquisition, get its hands on the latest technology, etc. DIUx is a sincere effort to do just that, but hasn’t been given a chance to get over a few stumbles.
Curious to hear others’ thoughts on this. And we’ll be out soon with an interview with Raj Shah, DIUx’s director, in the coming weeks.
