The Department of Veterans Affairs is on the cusp of a decision that could have broad repercussions on whether the agency pursues a broad strategy of commercializing its technology core, including its homegrown Vista electronic health record system.
It would be helpful to see the business case, although the case for internal development is troubling given the IT management issue that GAO recently cited at VA, along with the VA Inspector General.

As one who follows the VA EHR saga only occasionally, I’m curious what’s happened to the universal record with DOD. Didn’t DOD go with Cerner-Leidos?
I suppose it’s natural, then, that VA would be exploring Epic (even just for scheduling), which would seemingly give it a leg up on the whole VA EHR enhilada.
Has the private sector built off-the-shelt interfaces between the two?

Coincidentally, I see FedNewsRadio is reporting Fairchild AFB went live with the Leidos-Cerner solution.

VA Update: FCW is reporting that the VA has decided to move ahead with their in-house homegrown scheduling technology. Implications for VistA?
Also, the DoD’s EHR system is up and running, although limited. Will VA be forced to now merge their EHR system?
