The Defense Contract Management Agency’s (DCMA) Commercial Item Group (CIG), jointly with the Defense Acquisition University, released a new tool, the “Commercial Acquisition Resources: Examples, Roles, and References.” As the title suggests, this is CIG’s initiative to create an interactive web-based tool that covers a wide range of commercial acquisition topics.

This resource provides commercial item definition examples, outlines responsibilities between Government Contracting Officers, Prime Contractors, and Subcontractors, offers pre-solicitation/acquisition planning insights, to name just a few of the commercial acquisition areas covered.

It is also important to note that this resource was created to be utilized by both industry and government customers. In visualizing the outcomes and potential benefits, the CIG hopes this resource will provide a valuable guide both for government and industry, empowering parties to better communicate, collect, and evaluate commercial data when making/preparing for a commercial determination/proposal/acquisition.
