The client currently relies on a sole source provider for the military’s canteen cups. These cups have strict manufacturing requirements; however, the equipment used by the supplier frequently experiences breakdowns and delays, posing risks to production timelines.
To help the defense agency overcome sole source reliance, PSF used its rapid MI sprint to analyze market dynamics, supplier base, and alternative manufacturing processes for hydroforming-based canteen cups.
We performed a short analysis of hydroforming technology and then compared five alternative manufacturing methods for producing canteen cups.
We analyzed the long-term benefits and limitations of using 3D printing to manufacture canteen cups. 3D printing offers design flexibility, rapid prototyping, and reduced material waste but faces challenges like slow production speed, high costs, and limited material strength. While promising for low-volume production, it is not yet suitable for large-scale manufacturing of carbon caps.
We offer a company list along with a prioritized selection tailored to their use cases. This is a standard part of our sprint process.
We're ready to help you discover the right companies and ecosystem partners, understand technology/market trends and track risk/commercialization potential of your portfolio of companies/contractors.
