A new report ‘Our Money Our Future’ by former MP and author of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, Chris White, and Social Enterprise UK, claims the UK Government should extend the Social Value Act to include more public spending. Currently the Act ‘shapes’ around £25bn of public sector spending, but there is £243bn of public sector spending that is beyond the reach of the Act. The Act came into force in 2013, requiring people who commission public services to secure wider social, economic and environmental benefits from the money that they spent. ‘Our Money, our Future’ makes five recommendations which would ensure that taxpayers receive value for money. More information and a link to the report is here.
