The UK secretary of state for business has sought a series of binding commitments before he will authorise the proposed acquisition of GKN (part of the business supplies UK defence sector) by turnaround specialist Melrose, which is worth £8.1bn. The Engineer has been running a poll (still open) on those demands to find out what readers believe is the most important thing to protect in terms of the strategic aspects of GKN’s business to the UK and its employees. It is an attempt to see whether the demands might represent a good blueprint for how the government should approach proposed acquisitions of UK engineering and infrastructure companies in the future. The poll results will be published on April 3.
